In The Long Good Friday, Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren are magnificent as the lord and lady of their underworld manor, attempting to develop London Docklands in a pre-Canary Wharf world, caught between American investors and IRA bombs. Sheer brilliance.

In an evening launched by a great live set of WHO music from local musicians, LAMBERT & STAMP told the remarkable story of Chris Stamp and Kit Lambert, aspiring filmmakers from opposite sides of the tracks, who set out to find a subject for their underground movie, leading them to discover, mentor and manage the iconic band that would become known as The Who.

We had to add extra seats to fit in the capacity crowd who came to see Rama Burshtein’s amazing exploration of life within an ultra-orthodox Jewish community, in which a young Hasidic woman is pressurised by her family to marry the widower of her recently deceased sister. The foyer wine bar was buzzing afterwards with a big crowd that stayed on and had a lively chat about the film.

A packed hall was taken on a gothic journey past Betty Boop and Cab Callaway, a cat with hands and a surreal vision of Haedes. Phil’s wide knowledge of the animation industry and the techniques used gace insights into the animator’s art and science. SOLD OUT
