SON OF THE BRIDE
THURS 6 JUNE
Nominated for the 2001 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, this charming comedy-drama is one of Argentina’s biggest box-office hits. Director: Juan José Campanella.
At 42, Rafael Belvedere is having a crisis. He lives in his father’s shadow, he feels guilty about rarely visiting his aging mother who’s suffering from Alzheimer’s, his ex-wife says he doesn’t spend enough time with their daughter, he’s yet to make a commitment to his girlfriend and his restaurant is losing money. A minor heart attack encourages Rafael to re-evaluate his priorities and help his father give his mother the perfect silver wedding anniversary present.
This screening is organised in collaboration with the Enfield Dementia Action Alliance, which is an independent partnership of public, private and voluntary sector organisations who all work together to support people in Enfield living with dementia and their families and friends.
“Dementia” describes a range of diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, associated with the brain which can affect memory, everyday tasks, communication and perception. One in three aged 65+ will develop dementia as they age and we are working in Enfield to raise awareness and improve the lives of those living with dementia and their carers, families and friends.
Enfield has been accepted on the Dementia Friendly Community Recognition Process. There will be a display of information in the Dugdale foyer on the night about how individuals, local organisations and businesses can become ‘Dementia Friends’ and more dementia aware.
