THE PIANO

THURS 7 FEB

The Piano is the story of a woman who will not speak, a man who cannot listen and a wilful and mischievous little girl.   Ada, a 30ish woman who’s an elective mute, arrives on a bleak New Zealand coast with her little girl, Flora, her luggage and a piano, to meet a local bachelor who’s agreed to marry her.  The story has Gothic elements and Victorian sensibilities but gives us a heroine who’s definitely not prepared to be a victim. A haunting film that tells a subtle and surprising story of love and fierce pride.
