WOMAN AT WAR

THUR 5 DEC

Halla, magnificently played by Halldóra Geirharosdóttir, is a bike-riding environmental guerrilla battling government plans to build a new aluminium smelter amid the breathtaking beauty of rural Iceland. The story has a mythic feel, incorporating fable-like elements, casting Halla as Artemis, Greek goddess of the wilderness and the hunt, a theme that’s brilliantly emphasised by Erlingsson’s use of on-screen musicians as a kind of Greek chorus. Halldóra Geirharosdóttir commands the screen throughout.
