TALKIES’ SHORT FILM COMMISSIONS PREMIERE 2018 – SOLD 0UT

New films from talented young film makers, commissioned by Talkies, have their premiere screening at this very special event. The films are all shot around Palmers Green and include tales of harrassed traffic wardens, comedy of the dearly departed, Turkish supermarkets and more…intrigued?!
2018 is another successful partnership with Short Sighted Cinema, the home of British Short Film. Talkies’ commissions provide £500 towards the production of a short film based in and around Palmers Green in North London. All of the films explore suburban life, embracing locality while expressing individual artistry.
The commissions, which will continue annually, are open to all filmmakers, of any style or experience.
BELLA RIZA – EVDE
Through the daily activities of a Turkish green grocers and bakery, documentary Evde reflects on how roots are laid down in a new place and a unique sense of home can be created.
KAREN ANSTEE – APPROVAL NEEDED
Approval Needed is a tender, short comedy-drama about a traffic warden, a self-checkout machine and the need for love, tolerance and kindness in these troubled times. The script for Approval Needed was the Audience Award winner at this year’s IMDB Script to Screen Awards
PRAKASH NATHAN – SPACES
Spaces is a tale of loneliness in the big city and the assumptions we make of those around us, often for our own self-satisfaction, that can so quickly be proven wrong once we dig a little deeper.
KATE KENNEDY & SAM MCMULLEN – MALCOLM
While watching television in his daughter’s Palmer’s Green home, 84 year old Malcolm drops his head and ceases to be alive. Frankly, it’s been coming. But did it have to be this weekend? It’s an inconvenient weekend. Things to get sorted, busy week ahead, plus Blue Planet starts on Saturday… Thanks a lot Malcolm.
